little valley ‘summerhouse’
summerhouse; /ˈsʌmə haʊs/ noun. 1. a small roofed building affording shade, warmth and rest. 2. a small building in a garden like setting, used for relaxing.
This small two bedroom house is our latest creation on our humble little farm. While it has a comfortable sophistication in it’s design, it is all about maximising the beautiful Hunter Valley weather across all seasons.
The open breezeway design opens to a body of water which sparkles in the light and is a hive of activity with fish and wildlife. The open plan living and indoor/outdoor dining area makes time slip away as you eat, drink and hangout with your partner or friends.
The building was design by architect Matt Elkan and crafted by the owner over two years. It was a labour of love and a culmination of a lifelong goal to build a beautiful physical space.
The site provides another unique aspect to our small 50 acre farm. Sitting by the water and looking towards the paddocks it is both serene and fascinating, with never ending activity. You’ll see the fish in the foreground with the Alpaca’s, Donkeys, local Wallaroo’s & Birdlife going about their day.
Floor to ceiling windows bathe the interior with light with the winter sun penetrating the entire area. In summer deep overhangs and double glazed windows moderate extremes. In all seasons light sparkles on the ceilings as the light reflects off the water.
Our farm is fully off-grid so we live mindfully of our consumption of both water and electricty. With preplanning and forethought this very modern home is as comfortable and convenient as any city home.
note…
This building is new. The gardens are just planted, the grass seed just put down. We prefer to make or recycle furniture rather than buy from some chain store. To make this space fully come to life will take time - but it certainly is about the journey. We will update this page regularly and change our images on text on booking pages, but please be aware some things may change as this place evolves.
Little Valley Farm is our home and farm. We’re not a ‘country estate’ or a resort. We love beautiful things, love to create those things, we do almost everything ourselves as part of our independent life living on our land.
