The joy of Christmas is alive; Start your plantation with our Christmas tree seedlings

Limited time only and with perfect conditions for planting.

Christmas Tree seedlings are now sold out; ONLY tube stock is left.

Some of you may know we have been planting, growing, and selling Christmas trees for the past few years. We grow beautiful Radiata pine trees specifically bred for Christmas trees due to their high branching, fast growth, and shorter needles.

We have Radiata pine TUBE STOCK ready to plant, averaging 40cm tall. They are perfect for starting your own Christmas tree plantation. We are selling them in boxes of 20 until they are sold out. If you are interested in starting your plantation, please contact Daniela. Serious enquiries only.

More Info

These Christmas tree cultivars, Radiata Pine, tend to remain more bushy. They also require less pruning and maintenance to achieve the desired shape.

What you need to do:

+Map out your planting location for your tube stock. Space per tree is 3-4 metres. Tip: ensure your vehicle can drive around the plantation perimeter and between the row of trees.

+ Plant directly into the field or pot up upon arrival. 140mm pots are ideal for these seedlings to thrive for up to one year.

+ Plant directly in the paddock in cool conditions, or pot up and grow for a year to get your trees ahead of the weeds and give them time to adapt to your climate.

+ Avoid fertilising in the first few months after planting, as this can burn seedlings.

+ Radiata pines are very vigorous growers and, once established, will need little watering or fertiliser.

+ Keep weeds down around the tree for at least the first year and water in well after planting until established.

+ Pines like gentle slopes or hilly terrain with good drainage, and I hate wet feet. Avoid boggy or very clayey soils in landscape depressions or drainage lines.

+ They thrive on acidic soils and will tolerate lightly alkaline soil. Trees are frost tolerant down to -10’C and will tolerate hot conditions provided they do not dry out.

+ Trees will need regular pruning to maintain a dense Christmas tree shape, as they grow very fast.

Alpaca Yarn for our alpaca owners

Exciting News for Our Alpaca Owners! 🦙✨

For those of you who have purchased alpacas from us at Little Valley Farm, we’re thrilled to introduce a brand-new service starting in 2025!

During the upcoming shearing season, make sure to save your fleece, as we will soon offer hand-spinning services to help you transform your fleece into beautiful, usable yarn.
In the next eight weeks, we’ll provide all the details on how this service will work. In the meantime, as you prepare for shearing, be sure to store your fleece properly and skirt it carefully to get the best.

More info coming soon. Daniela.

While genetics play a major role, management practices also have a significant impact on fleece quality. By controlling fibre growth and timing shearing properly, you can ensure optimal results. Here are a few key tips:

  • Timing: Shear before pasture plants set seed to minimise contamination from vegetable matter and shear in Spring before it get to hot.

  • Clean paddocks: Keeping paddocks free of debris is crucial for maintaining fleece purity.

  • Nutrition and environment: Dust, poor nutrition, and environmental factors can affect the fleece's luster, tensile strength, and colour. Maintaining good animal health and nutrition is essential to prevent "tender fleece" that breaks easily.

  • Water sources: Keep alpacas away from creeks and dams to avoid fleece damage.

When to Shear

The timing of shearing is important, especially as spring approaches.

What we need

Saddle only. Skirt and remove any short legs and neckpieces. You may lose up to 30% during the process and remove any dirt and vegetation matter.

What you will receive

70-80 g per yarn ball. Anywhere from 8 to 20 yarn balls (adult-size fleece).

Price

Will get quoted once we inspect the fleece. Price will include GST and P&P charges.

This yarn processing service is exclusively available to those who have purchased alpacas from us.

The Best Duvets are made with Alpaca Fleece

When it comes to finding the perfect duvet, there are a lot of factors to consider. But if you're looking for the best of the best, you can't go wrong with one made from alpaca fleece. Alpaca fleece offers superior insulation and is naturally hypoallergenic, making it the perfect material for those with sensitive skin. Plus, alpacas are curious and sensitive animals, making them a pleasure to breed and manage. Here at Little Valley Farm, we're well-known for our national parks and Australian wildlife. We're off-grid and sustainable in our on-farm practices. Alpacas fit that perfectly with a very low impact on the land.

There are a lot of reasons why alpaca fleece makes the best duvets. Firstly, it's a natural hollow fibre, which means it has superior insulation properties. It's also relatively lightweight, making it easy to move around when you're trying to get comfortable. Also, alpaca fleece is strong and durable, so you know your duvet will last for years. And finally, it's Hypoallergenic! This is perfect for those with sensitive skin who often have problems with other types of materials.

The Best Duvets are made in Australia.

When it comes to finding the perfect duvet, it's important to find one that's made in Australia. This is because Australian standards are some of the highest in the world when it comes to quality control. That means you can rest assured knowing that your duvet was made with the highest quality materials and construction methods.

If you're looking for the best duvet possible, look no further than one made from alpaca fleece. Alpaca fleece offers superior insulation and is naturally hypoallergenic, making it the perfect material for those with sensitive skin. Plus, alpacas are curious and sensitive animals, making them a pleasure to breed and manage. Our duvets are made in Australia to the highest quality standards. Visit our shop cart today to learn more!

Comes in Double, Queen and King sizes.

Which Duvet weight is right for me?

Duvets use ‘Grams Per Square Metre’ or gsm to indicate the product’s relative warmth. It refers to the weight of the quilt filling. So, the higher the gsm of filling, the warmer it is.

  • 200 gsm is good for Summer (roughly equivalent to 1-2 blankets)

  • 300 gsm is good for both Autumn and Spring (roughly equivalent to 2-3 blankets)

  • 500 gsm is good for Winter (roughly equivalent to 3-4 blankets)

The best Duvets are filled with Alpaca Fleece - the Warmest and Softest bedding for any Climate

Blog Introduction: Are you looking for a new duvet? Do you want something that is soft, warm, and perfect for pretty much any climate? If so, you should consider investing in a duvet filled with alpaca fleece, the ultimate natural fibre for comfortable bedding.

Alpacas are domesticated animal that is part of the camelid family. Alpacas are native to South America and were first domesticated by the Inca civilization over 6,000 years ago. There are two types of alpacas - the Huacaya and the Suri. The vast majority of alpacas in the world are Huacaya, and these beautiful animals have amazing fleece perfect for duvets and bedding.

Alpacas are bred for their fibre which is extremely soft, warm, and durable. In fact, alpaca fibre is often compared to cashmere. Alpaca fiber comes in over 20 different natural colours including white, fawn, brown, black, and grey.

Alpaca fleece is the perfect filling for duvets because it is soft, warm, and lightweight. It is also hypoallergenic which makes it a great option for people who suffer from allergies or asthma.

Alpaca fleece is a sustainable resource since it can be shorn from the animals, right here on the farm, without harming them. Alpacas are very gentle on the land due to their soft feet. Their fleece does not contain lanolin so it does not need to be treated with harsh chemicals like other types of wool.

If you are looking for a new duvet, I highly recommend considering one filled with alpaca fleece. It is the warmest, softest, and most sustainable option available. You will love snuggling up under your new duvet on cold winter nights!

If you are in the market for a new duvet, be sure to look into alpaca fleece as an option. Alpaca fleece is soft, warm, and perfect for any climate. It is also hypoallergenic and sustainable - making it the perfect choice for anyone looking for a new duvet!

Alpaca Fleece For Sale - Little Valley Farm

We have just completed our shearing for Spring 2021, and now our alpacas are ready and relaxed for the hot Summer days ahead. Freshly shorn and out of the sun, they enjoy the shade of the old Liquid Amber trees.

Biscuit and Flirty pictured here.

I will be spending the week sorting out which fleece we should spin and felt for our Summer 2022 projects. So far, we have counted 40+ saddles to work with and more for me to clean and sort out.

So if you love spinning or felting alpaca fleece, we have a range of white, fawn and brown fleece for your home projects. We have mostly Huacaya and some long fawn Suri fleece available.

Our alpaca fleece sale will start early November, and we will have saddles ready for spinning from $10, $15, $20 and $30. Our saddles have been partly skirted, (we have removed the neck and leg fleece). But, of course, there will always be some vegetation matter and dirt as they love to roll in the ground just before shearing.

Alpaca garments are often sought after for their softness and warmth. The two types of alpacas, Suri and Huacaya, offer different qualities in wool that can be used to create unique pieces of clothing. Alpaca GOLD

The beauty of alpaca manure - big beautiful sunflowers and amazing produce at the farm.

Alpaca manure is called alpaca gold and for very good reason.

Although lower in organic matter than other traditional manures, alpaca manure has a lot of value in the garden. In fact, many gardeners find this type of manure to be an excellent source of nutrients for optimal soil and plant health.

Using alpaca manure as fertiliser is beneficial. Even with its lower organic content, alpaca manure is considered a rich soil conditioner. Alpaca fertiliser improves the soil quality and its ability to retain water. It is also good for plants, providing a fair amount of nitrogen and potassium and about average levels of phosphorus. Since alpaca manure is mostly found in pellet form and is weed free, it does not need to be aged or composted before use. You can spread it directly onto garden plants without burning them.

Best of all, it does not contain any weed seeds to contaminate your garden beds.

This years large sunflowers. nothing added except organic matter and alpaca gold.

Roma Tomatoes by Little Valley Farm

Our Roma Tomato’s have arrived at Little Valley Farm. We have been growing these beauties for over five years and our customers love them. See what our customers are saying about our seasonal chemical-free Roma’s.

FullSizeRender.jpg

Its not easy growing produce right now due to the super dry-season in the Hunter Valley. We are constantly pumping water to care of our tomatoes. Our over 40+ degree days are a bit tough especially when its 3-4 days of non-stop scorching heat and then the hot wind blowing. I am cursing the weather constantly. Luckily, we had a sunflower ‘trick’ that helped shade some of our plants and are pleasantly growing acid free Roma’s right now. Our seasonal tomatoes will be available until March and then we start to prep the soil for our Turban Purple garlic.

Its time to make my passata. See you soon.

Fibre Fest 2018

Today we visited Singleton’s Fibre Fest 2018 organised by the Knitters Guild NSW. It was a pretty huge turn out on their Sunday ‘retail-day’. Saturday was full of fibre workshops. Now just one spinning wheel demo and now I want a new spinning wheel and a weaving loom…. oh, plus I want more coloured alpacas.

The alpaca yarn and rovings on sale today was absolutely amazing quality and we know its something that we can produce at LVF down the track.

Here I am demo-ing a two peddle spinning wheel which is made in Holland. Its super easy and I just need to get my hands drafting the alpaca fleece a lot faster. The perfect wheel to spin our alpaca fleece at Little Valley Farm.

Slow Fashion : Alpaca Fashion

At Little Valley Farm we are very excited about the changes to the Australian Alpaca Industry.

The Italian fleece buyers have been around for many years buying Australian fleece, now China is on a growth path as they are starting to appreciate the quality of our Australian fleece and genetics.  We can thank the Australian Alpaca Association for helping with this growth.

Over the years, there has been an increase in family run mills across Australia.  We have used a small mill to clean our fleece and make our own alpaca yarn knitting balls. We also work with a local artisan in the Wollombi Valley to hand spin our yarn.  You can see our products for sale online here.

We have made pillows, cushions, bed throws, a scarf, a beanie and a super warm and heavy winter quilt for us to use. Its heavenly!

We will send our next batch to the clever people at Adagio Mills who are based in Orange.  Our shearing day is booked for 13th October 2018.

We recently purchased two top fleece girls and one super stud to change our genetic and fleece structure at Little Valley Farm. With the new fleece, we will start to produce 'slow-fashion' which is 'sustainable fashion' made by family owned businesses in Australia.

This kickstarter campaign from Adagio Mills will help take this industry to the next stage. We are in! Are you?  If you would you to help kickstart Adagio Mills then click here

Nadine Hulme is raising funds for Adagio made - sustainable slow fashion - knitted clothing on Kickstarter! Natural, sustainable, timeless and luxurious knitted clothing. Fibre to garments, all in one place. Welcome to Slow Fashion.
